Swiss people to vote on population limit
People could see major changes to Switzerland’s links with Europe if a proposal setting a population ceiling becomes law. On 14 June, voters are due to decide whether permanent resident numbers should stop at 10 million, with polling indicating a close result. Current estimates put that level between 2033 and 2041, and exceeding it would require ending free-movement arrangements with the EU.
