Streeting warns Labour: Costly pledges threaten finances, trust

Public trust and government finances risk strain as Labour leadership debate intensifies. Wes Streeting used a speech on progressive capitalism to criticise costly pledge promises and defend bond markets. Streeting also signalled opposition to any deal allowing Andy Burnham to become leader without a contest, noting he would need backing from 80 MPs to stand in a Sun interview about Labour leadership race.
