Streeting quits Starmer cabinet to make leadership bid
Wes Streeting resigned as health secretary on Thursday morning, saying he had lost confidence in Keir Starmer’s leadership and is now preparing to formally challenge the prime minister for the Labour leadership. Streeting is the first cabinet-level minister to leave Starmer’s government, after four junior ministers including Jess Phillips quit earlier this week. His resignation came as 88 Labour MPs had publicly called for the prime minister to step down.
