Labour strategists are using the Holborn and St Pancras by-election to see if new leader Andy Burnham has ended the Greens' threat. The vote, expected on 8 October, comes after Sir Keir Starmer ended his parliamentary career this month. If Labour's candidate, Sagal Abdi-Wali, beats Green leader Zack Polanski, it could pave the way for an early general election.
