Starmer to ban social media for under-16s
Prime Minister Keir Starmer is announcing a ban on social media for under-16s on Monday, in what Downing Street calls a world-leading move to protect children online. The ban would cover TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, Snapchat, Threads, Twitch, Kick and Reddit, and goes further than Australia’s by also restricting AI chatbots, some gaming features and adding an overnight curfew for older teens. The decision follows a public consultation that drew 116,000 responses.
