Starmer Steps Down, Labour Faces New Leadership Race

Britain now faces a leadership contest that could bring its seventh Prime Minister in just over a decade. Sir Keir Starmer resigned as Prime Minister less than two years after winning a landslide victory at the 2024 general election. Andy Burnham's Makerfield by-election win increased pressure on Starmer. Starmer's premiership is among the shortest for a Labour Prime Minister in history.
