Special Medical Tampon Trial Aims to Spot Ovarian Cancer Earlier

Researchers in Southampton have launched the VIOLET trial to test whether a specialist medical tampon can help detect early signs of ovarian cancer by analysing tiny biological signals (microRNA biomarkers) in vaginal fluid. Around 250 women, including those with BRCA gene mutations, will take part. If successful, the method could transform diagnosis by catching disease earlier, when treatment is more effective and survival rates are higher.
