South West Water admits crime after Devon parasite outbreak
South West Water confessed to a criminal offense for providing contaminated drinking water, which followed a parasite outbreak in Brixham, Devon. The cryptosporidiosis outbreak in May 2024 led to over 140 confirmed illnesses, with four people needing hospital treatment. The utility firm accepted responsibility for breaking a rule outlined in the Water Industry Act of 1991 during proceedings at Exeter Magistrates' Court. The penalty determination for the water company is scheduled for June.
