Sony and TSMC to spend $6.3 billion on next-gen sensor chips
The joint venture, set to start commercial production in Japan's Kumamoto prefecture by 2029, was announced by Sony and TSMC in May. The venture aims to combine Sony's sensor design with TSMC's manufacturing expertise. They plan to target "physical AI" applications in cars and robotics, as well as current smartphone sensors.
