Small boat arrivals hit 781 on Wednesday, a 2026 record
Wednesday saw 781 migrants reach shore in 10 small boats, representing the highest number for a single day this year. The provisional total for Channel crossings in 2026 now stands at 18,565, a figure 42% below that recorded for the equivalent period in 2025. Shabana Mahmood, the Home Secretary, has commissioned a review following two boats reaching British shores without detection this week.
