Self-checkouts linked to rising shoplifting, M&S chair warns

Retailers may push for tougher store controls as theft pressures grow in high streets and supermarkets. The Independent reported that the M&S chair warned self-checkouts were helping drive shoplifting. The report said the Metropolitan Police is solving 50% more shoplifting cases in trial areas using technology that lets retailers quickly send reports and CCTV footage to officers.
