Science shows 10,000 daily steps was a marketing slogan, not a health goal

The familiar 10,000 steps a day target originated from a 1960s Japanese pedometer brand, not scientific research. Epidemiologists found no scientific basis for the figure, which officials selected because it was catchy and memorable. However, recent studies now show significant health benefits can start from around 4,000 steps daily.
