Russian captain found guilty of killing crew member in tanker crash
Vladimir Motin, 59, was found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence at the Old Bailey after his ship, the Solong, crashed into the anchored Stena Immaculate oil tanker. The collision occurred on March 10, killing 38-year-old Filipino crewman Mark Angelo Pernia instantly. Jurors deliberated for eight hours before convicting Motin, who was on sole watch when the 7,852-tonne vessel struck, causing a fire that burned for eight days.
