Russia, Ukraine announce separate ceasefires

Fighting may briefly ease as both sides plan short pauses, though not at the same time. Russia said on 4 May 2026 it would halt attacks on May 8–9 for Victory Day events, while Ukraine announced its own truce for May 5–6. Both moves are separate and come during a war now in its fourth year.
