Russia's FSB has detained Yuki Imai, a reporter for Japan's Hokkaido Shimbun newspaper, on the island of Sakhalin, accusing him of gathering information about Russian defences for Japanese intelligence. He was held a day before leaving Russia and moved to Moscow, where he will be kept until 12 December. Japan's government says it is checking the facts. Espionage carries up to 20 years in jail.
