Iran Sentences Woman to Death Over Social Media Post

CC Search

A 23-year-old Iranian accounting student, Najmeh Amini, has been sentenced to death for blasphemy over a social media post, according to rights groups. She was detained during anti-government protests earlier this year and is held in Mashhad's Vakilabad prison, where she also received a separate 12-year term. Campaigners say Iran has carried out at least 600 executions this year as it cracks down on dissent.
