Royal Navy to study extending Type 45 destroyers' use beyond 2035

The Ministry of Defence will fund a study into keeping the Type 45 destroyers in service past their planned 2035-38 retirement. The Type 83 replacement programme was dropped, and the new 'Hybrid Navy' plan is still far from ready. A decision on extending the destroyers' use will be made in 2027-28.
