Rail fares frozen: A £300 annual saving after years of hikes.
Labour's freeze on rail fares came into force this week, covering more than one billion journeys including season tickets and peak and off-peak returns between major cities. Commuters on the busiest routes are expected to save more than £300 a year. The government said fares would have risen by 5.8% without the freeze. It is the first time fares have been held since the 1990s, after rising 60% between 2010 and 2024 under the previous Conservative government.
