Quarrying firm destroys rare butterfly habitat in Derbyshire after 15 years
Conservationists are heartbroken after a quarrying company covered wildflower areas at Hoe Grange Quarry with soil in January. Butterfly Conservation East Midlands announced that a 15-year initiative to promote rare Wall butterflies has concluded, as surveys indicate a significant decline in their population. Longcliffe Quarries, the firm involved, stated the work was for safety reasons, covering just 4.5% of the five-hectare site.
