Pound ignores October budget date to secure its best month since April

Sterling climbed more than 1% against the dollar in July, ending two consecutive months of falling value. Finance minister John Healey scheduled his first major tax and spending plans for 28 October while promising to keep strict borrowing limits. Instead of domestic politics, traders spent Friday reacting to suspected moves by Japanese officials to boost the yen.
