Pope Leo XIV's tests revealed he had lung adenocarcinoma, the most prevalent type of lung cancer, and the illness had not spread. His lead surgeon Stefano Margaritora and personal physician Luigi Carbone said a follow-up assessment found no need for more therapy. A section of the 71-year-old's right lung was excised on 13 October, and his attendance at the South America trip remains uncertain.
