Parents get Instagram alerts for teen self-harm searches
Instagram will begin notifying parents who use its child supervision tools. Notifications will be activated if their adolescent child frequently searches for subjects concerning suicide or self-injury over a brief period. This new feature is scheduled to launch next week in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, and Canada, with a rollout to other regions thereafter. Meta stated that these notifications will include expert resources to help parents with sensitive conversations, though the Molly Rose Foundation expressed concerns that the measures could be harmful.
