OpenAI loses EU trademark fight over its name

The EU's General Court ruled that "OPENAI" is too descriptive for some software and IT services, meaning it can't be trademarked there. The court in Luxembourg stated that the name implies readily available artificial intelligence, confirming a previous ruling from the EU Intellectual Property Office. OpenAI had argued its name had multiple meanings and cited trademark registrations in over 30 other countries, including the UK.
