OpenAI gets Pentagon AI deal after Anthropic is dropped
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed on Friday that the company has secured an agreement to supply artificial intelligence tools for classified US defence systems. The move comes after the Trump administration ended its collaboration with rival firm Anthropic, citing disagreements over the potential misuse of AI in mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. Altman stated that the new partnership includes firm commitments preventing the technology from being deployed for domestic mass monitoring or autonomous lethal operations, principles reportedly backed by the Pentagon.
