Nurses leave university owing £50,160 on average, against £47,774 for doctors, according to Freedom of Information requests made by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN). The RCN, the nurses' union, wants a loan forgiveness scheme, wiping 30% of the debt after three years in the NHS or social care.
