North sea industry wants windfall tax scrapped three years early
Offshore Energies UK, the trade body representing the sector, is pushing Labour to replace the levy in 2027 instead of 2030 to help protect industrial jobs. The lobby group says bringing the change forward could unlock about £50bn of investment and generate extra tax revenue over the next decade. However, the proposal comes as household energy bills are expected to reach a three-year high this winter.
