North Korea fired multiple ballistic missiles toward the East Sea from the Pyongyang area around 9:20am local time on 12 October. Seoul said one missile flew more than 900 kilometres. Japan reported detecting at least two launches. Officials called it the fourth North Korean launch this month and a show of force after South Korea's recent hypersonic missile test. The launches deepen regional security tensions.
