NHS warns about omeprazole medicine use
The NHS has issued advice concerning omeprazole, a widely used medicine for heartburn and indigestion. England saw 73 million prescriptions for proton pump inhibitors, which include omeprazole, from 2022 to 2023. It must not be used long-term without professional guidance, or exceed two weeks if bought without a prescription. Long-term usage might lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium levels, and increased bone fracture risk.
