Nepal’s new government faces $2.6bn reconstruction bill after devastating floods

Flash floods two weeks ago destroyed about 7,500 homes and damaged at least 12 hydropower projects in Nepal's mountains and river valleys. The country has an estimated damage bill of $2.56 billion, a significant sum given its current fiscal year's budget of $14 billion. Prime Minister Balen Shah's new government now begins the enormous task of rebuilding and developing a more resilient country.
