Nationwide cuts 600 jobs after Virgin Money takeover
This is the first big round of redundancies since Nationwide bought Virgin Money for £2.9 billion this spring. The cuts affect about 600 back-office staff from both companies whose roles overlap after the merger. Nationwide, which employs around 25,000 people, has promised to keep nearly 700 branches open until 2030.
