National Grid Plans UK's Biggest Substation on Teesside

National Grid Plans UK's Biggest Substation on Teesside

Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, OGL v3, via Wikimedia Commons

National Grid has agreed to buy land at Dorman Point on Teesside for what could become Britain's biggest electricity substation, with up to 3.2GW of capacity. It could power a huge planned AI datacentre at the Teesworks site. Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen said getting enough power quickly is the biggest single barrier to datacentres, as opposition to such projects grows elsewhere in the UK.
