NASA orbiter spotted a 222-metre moon crater in May 2024
Scientists have found the solar system's largest recent impact crater on the moon, caused by a powerful asteroid or comet fragment two years ago. The huge hole, about 222 metres across, went undetected until May 2024 when NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spotted it. Researchers say such a large event happens only about once every 132 years, offering key information for NASA's planned moon base.
