Mourinho signed a 2013 deal to replace Ferguson, but then returned to Chelsea

José Mourinho has revealed he actually signed a contract to become Manchester United manager in 2013, before Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Mourinho then tearfully pulled out of the deal within hours to return to Chelsea, where he felt loved. Ferguson, the former United manager, confirmed Mourinho's emotional call, expressing his disappointment at the time.
