More Adults in England Avoiding Alcohol, NHS Survey Finds

A recent NHS survey indicates a growing trend of alcohol abstention among adults in England. Approximately 24% reported not consuming alcohol in the past year, a rise from 19% between 2011 and 2022. This shift is particularly noticeable among young men, with 39% abstaining. Older individuals who do drink are more likely to engage in risky consumption. Worldwide, alcohol caused 2.6 million deaths in 2019.
