Mitchells & Butlers faces £130M cost increase

Pub and restaurant chain Mitchells & Butlers, owner of brands including All Bar One, Harvester and Toby Carvery, faces approximately £130 million in additional costs for 2026. The cost surge stems from rising minimum wages, increased National Insurance contributions following Chancellor Rachel Reeves' Autumn Budget, and significant food price inflation particularly affecting meat. Despite these challenges, the company exceeded profit expectations with adjusted pre-tax profits reaching £246 million, up 16.5% from previous year, and like-for-like sales growing 3.8% in recent weeks.
