Migrant return scheme costs £56,000 per person, Home Secretary says
Shabana Mahmood, the Home Secretary, informed Members of Parliament on Tuesday that each individual participating in the government's "one in, one out" initiative incurs a cost of £56,000. Since August 2025, the policy of returning migrants who cross the Channel to France has led to around 1,400 deportations. The initiative is now set to continue through October, following an extension.
