Andy Haldane warns Andy Burnham over high public spending

Former Bank of England chief economist Andy Haldane warned Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Wednesday that financial markets view his administration as a traditional tax-and-spend socialist government. Speaking to LBC on Wednesday, Haldane stated that the government's major weakness is its reluctance or inability to curb public spending, causing investors to worry about public debt. He also suggested revisiting the triple lock pension, which could cost up to £40 billion more per year by 2050.
