Mercury and Lead Found in Fake Make-Up Seized Across UK

Trading Standards tests on fake beauty products seized in raids in Manchester and Bolton found dangerous ingredients in many items. Twenty of 50 products failed safety checks, including a skin-lightening cream with high levels of mercury and lipsticks, eyeshadows and contour palettes containing lead. One perfume was mostly methanol, while another contained nicotine. Officials have urged shoppers to buy cosmetics only from trusted, reputable sellers.
