A 60-year-old man has died after being struck by a falling tree as Storm Boelo battered the UK with gusts above 80mph. Police Scotland said he was hit on a minor road near Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway at about 10:30am on Sunday. More than 82,000 properties lost power, while trains, ferries and hundreds of flights across the country were cancelled or badly delayed.
