Man arrested in Cyprus accused of sharing British air base information with Iran

Counter-terrorism police are investigating 44-year-old Rashad Sultanov under the National Security Act for alleged offences outside the UK. Officers in Cyprus detained the dual British-Azerbaijani citizen on 17 July over claims he monitored the RAF Akrotiri site between May and June 2025. Prosecutors allege he passed details to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, and he is currently awaiting extradition in custody.
