Mali TikTok Star Mariam Cisse Publicly Executed by Jihadists Amid Worsening Security Crisis
Mariam Cisse, a TikTok influencer in her 20s with around 90,000 followers, was abducted while livestreaming from a market in Tonka, northern Mali, and publicly executed in Independence Square in early November. Suspected members of the Al-Qaeda-linked group JNIM accused her of filming them and collaborating with the Malian army. Her brother witnessed the execution as militants shot her in front of a crowd to intimidate civilians and discourage support for government forces, highlighting Mali's deteriorating security situation.
