Incoming prime minister Andy Burnham is expected to appoint Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood as chancellor, according to the Financial Times, with one source describing the decision as nailed down. Mahmood is reported to have beaten the early favourite Ed Miliband, who is instead tipped for the Foreign Office, in a choice the City sees as a signal of fiscal caution.
