London Bridge Terror Attack Officer Sacked for ‘Offensive’ Traveller Messages
A Detective Constable with British Transport Police (BTP), who was among the first officers to respond to the 2017 London Bridge terror attack, has been sacked for gross misconduct after posting derogatory messages about the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities in a WhatsApp group with colleagues. Misconduct panel members ruled that he likely knew his language was “offensive” and discriminatory. The officer claimed his remarks were intended as humour linked to trauma coping mechanisms, but dismissed nonetheless.
