Kosovo's former president Hashim Thaçi receives 25-year sentence for war crimes
Hashim Thaçi, 58, was found guilty of dozens of murders, torture, and illegal detention during the 1998-99 war for independence from Serbia. The European-backed Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague sentenced him and three other former commanders on Wednesday. Many in Kosovo, where Thaçi is seen as a national hero, opposed the trial and were stunned by the verdict.
