Kendall asks Ofcom for age checks by October
Parents backing tighter online rules could see stronger checks on young users if the plans proceed. On 15 June 2026, technology secretary Liz Kendall said she had asked Ofcom to produce proposals for effective age verification by October and to provide yearly updates to parliament on enforcement. She said nine in ten parents responding to the consultation wanted a complete social media ban.
