Japan's 7.2 quake: Why no tsunami despite powerful tremor?
A powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck off Japan's northern coast on Thursday morning, mildly shaking Tokyo, but thankfully there's no tsunami risk. The Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed the quake was about 50 kilometres deep, and occurred in an area that has seen strong tremors recently. No injuries or damage were immediately reported, and nuclear plants, including Fukushima Daiichi, show no abnormalities.
