Japan fires first missile in Philippines, signaling new regional role

Regional security ties are tightening as joint drills grow more active. Japan’s Self-Defense Forces launched Type 88 anti-ship missiles during Balikatan exercises in the Philippines on Wednesday, marking their first such firing there alongside U.S. and allied forces.
