British households owe £6 billion in unpaid energy bills before expected cap rise

Industry group EnergyUK warned the total might reach £7 billion by late this year unless the government steps in. This unrecovered money already adds about £50 to a standard yearly household charge. The energy regulator Ofgem is set to announce a 4% cap increase this week, largely because the Iran war has driven wholesale costs higher.
