Israel's president Isaac Herzog has handed opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot, a former army chief, the first chance to build a coalition after last week's inconclusive election. Eisenkot won 67 recommendations from incoming lawmakers against Benjamin Netanyahu's 46. He now has 28 days, with a possible extra two weeks, and says he wants to form a national emergency government. Netanyahu's bloc won 53 of 120 seats.
