Israeli strikes kill at least 41 in Lebanon

Israel pounded southern Lebanon with around 50 strikes on Saturday in one of the most intense waves of attacks in weeks. Lebanese authorities say more than 40 people were killed for the second day running, with civilian areas in Nabatieh, Tyre and Bint Jbeil heavily damaged. The bombardment defies the formal ceasefire signed in Washington on 17 April, which the Chinese UN envoy now says is only a "lesser fire".
